Drake Hotel sign
Significance
This is part of a larger sign that hung in the Drake Hotel parking lot at 606 Powell Street at Princess Street in the Strathcona. Neon flourished when automobiles took over Vancouver’s streets in the 1950s. Large, brightly lit signs were visible from fast-moving cars. Hotels and motels used neon to lure guests with signs that shined through the night.
