Greenpeace button
Significance
Harriett Lemer wore this Greenpeace button on her canvas backpack. The world’s first international environmental organization was born in a Vancouver living room in 1969. It started life as the anti-nuke Don’t Make a Wave Committee. As its mission expanded, it became the Greenpeace Foundation. Vancouver’s natural setting and universities made it the perfect incubator for eco-warriors, like the nature lovers, scientists, and activists who founded Greenpeace.
