Sons of England bowling trophy
Significance
Removed from friends and relatives, newcomers looked to their countrymen and women for friendship and help in hard times, and sometimes for ethnic solidarity. Harry Sutch won this league championship trophy in the Sons of England five-pin bowling league in 1942-43. The Sons of England Benefit Society offered their members fun times as well as an insurance and burial scheme. Meeting at the Western Jubilee Lodge at 244 East 14th Avenue, the group, which had been founded in Toronto in 1874, sought to protect the interests of Englishmen and their descendants in Canada.
