Museum of Vancouver Appoints New Member of the Board of Directors and Reappoints Two Directors

MUSEUM OF VANCOUVER APPOINTS NEW MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND REAPPOINTS TWO DIRECTORS

Vancouver, B.C., February 6 2018 - The Board of Directors of the Museum of Vancouver (MOV) is pleased to welcome Mark Virgin to its Board of Directors for a two-year term effective February 1, 2018. Kory Wilson and Pamela Goossen were also re-appointed for second two year terms.

They join the MOV board of twelve, representing a broad scope of industry sectors and community interests.

 

Mark Virgin

New Board member Mark Virgin is the principal of Stevens Virgin, a Vancouver boutique litigation firm. Virgin is active in numerous community and professional organizations. He serves as President of Anxiety BC and he is a director on the board of the Courthouse Libraries Society of BC.

Some notable achievements in his community service includes his instrumental role in raising the public/private monies of nearly $10,000,000 to build the Dr. Peter Centre which provides palliative care to 24 people and provides day programming to over 150 individuals with HIV/AIDS.  While Chair, Virgin stewarded the foundation through the ground-breaking introduction of supervised injection services by staff at the Centre which ultimately helped reshape the law in this area of healthcare in Canada. During Virgin’s leadership of AnxietyBC, fundraising has escalated by $500,000 per annum.
 

Kory Wilson

Wilson is a member of the We Wai Kai Nation (Quadra Island) and is Musgamagw Tsawataineuk and Laich-Kwil-Tach. Wilson is the Executive Director, Indigenous Initiatives and Partnerships at BCIT, and the Chair of the National Indigenous Education Committee of Colleges and Institutions Canada and a Global Access to Post-Secondary Education Ambassador.  Wilson has a Law degree from UBC.

Pamela Goossen

Goossen is the founder and CEO of Zoom Consulting, a Vancouver-based marketing and communications firm that serves both local and global clients across a variety of sectors. Goossen’s specialties include branding, web content strategy and lead generation. Goossen holds a BA in English from UBC and is an accredited public relations professional.

MOV’s mandate is to reflect and connect the stories of Vancouver to the world by collecting and preserving material and non-material culture and sharing stories that explore Vancouver’s past, present and future through exhibitions, school and public programs. The Board of Directors guides the strategic direction of the Society supporting four pillars: Reconciliation, Immigration, Natural History and Social History and Contemporary Issues.
