Amanda Gibbs

Director of Audience Engagement

My first museum visit: a mix of tantalizing objects behind glass and artifacts we were encouraged to handle, all animated by a talented young docent who created new worlds for a bunch of awestruck eight-year-olds. Thirty years on, and I’m still hooked. Whether in a new city or country or trying to figure out an activity close to home, museums are always my first choice for an outing. My background in cultural journalism, environmental and social justice campaign development, conflict mediation, branding and storytelling have brought me to this place – part of a team trying to forge a provocative, relevant new model for museums while never forgetting the wonder and aura of material culture and the power of great interpretation.

Education: Bachelor of Journalism; Master of Arts, Canadian Studies; Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario.
