Join us for an inside look at Vancouver Sun photojournalism from Vancouver in the Seventies exhibition guest curator, Kate Bird.
In the 1970s staff photographers at The Vancouver Sun shot over 4,000 photo assignments every year. They covered news, politics, business, sports and entertainment, in addition to whatever caught their eye. Kate will discuss photojournalism at the Sun, the vast collection she worked amidst for twenty-five years as Research Librarian at Pacific Newspaper Group, and the focus of her book Vancouver in the Seventies: Photos from the Decade that Changed the City.
The author of Vancouver in the Seventies: Photos from the Decade that Changed the City, Kate Bird has been the researcher for books, including Making Headlines: 100 Years at The Vancouver Sun, which won the Bill Duthie Booksellers' Choice Award at the 2013 BC Book Prizes, and Lilies and Fireweed: Frontier Women of British Columbia.
